The food looks great! I like how she can explain her perspective on history without being offensive to Thai history. Cambodia would have to challenge a lot on these as their claim all of our culture to their own
At least laos and thais can relate to each other on a lot of things. Cambodia on the other hand is just.....
Can you give some examples of how Cambodia claims thai culture? ๐
Not really as a cambodian I'm happy to share a culture with others in this sense sharing a similar culture as thai is not a problem for me at all and most cambodians I know are happy too
@@nightowlpiont1485 When unesco recently declared the Thai ancient city in phetchabun A UNESCO heritage, The cambodians claimed it to be a part of their culture.

Laos food is so underrated! As a Thai I love it so much. I think it's a more spicy and flavourful version of (central) thai food :)

My first tour 1971 was Cam Rahn Bay South Vietnam. Second tour 1973 was out of NKP Thailand on the Mekong river. It only cost 50 cents to get across the river into Laos and it cost everything you had to get back to Thailand. Thais are the most friendly folks I have ever met and their food is spicy hot.
I had a big smile on my face throughout this whole video ๐คฃ๐
At first i was pissed too but now i understand his intention. First, we have to understand that this Uncle Roger is just a character and he's meant to be pretty offensive. What he really wanted to do was bring attention to lao food. Lao food is overshadowed by thai food even though it's very similar and some popular Thai food actually originated in laos. There's no better way to bring attention to a subject than being controversial. He successfully got people interested in lao food.
cheers my brother or sister
Since he mentioned Laos and Cambodia he got flooded with tons of stitches and responses to his videos. He got interactions and people who normally donโt have the size of his platform got more attention by dueting his videos. People can be upset but it just brought more attention to Laotian and Cambodian cuisines.
I was really hoping that would happen and it did help that Ae already was in the Gordon Ramsay cooking show.
That was his scheme this whole time. Controversy garners alot of attention. Plus, he gets to do new videos like this where he gets to eat good food. Now if I said anything negative about other cultures, all I get is beat up.
Cambodian and Laotian food in America is more recognized than Malaysian food.
@@12GaugeBen Yea, I'm going to call this a happy accident until I have proof that this was a scheme rather than the unexpected results of Uncle Roger talking spicy for the sake of it.
I know malaysia and laos food but never cambodia food
Well I think the reason that some Thai restaurants in America feel watered down is because when they initially opened up restaurants, Americans couldnโt really handle the heat. I do love many Thai and Laotian restaurants in Oklahoma but Thai restaurants can be considerably more subdued. As many cultures adapt to โamericans tasteโ they are losing their culture. I would love authentic restaurants all around. ๐ฅฐ

There is really no need to debate who owns a particular type of food. The entire Southeast Asia is an amalgamation of our many fascinating characters and cultures. Iโm Thai and we are right smack in the middle. People living close to the borders often speak dialects that resemble those of countries on the other side and make similar styles of dishes. I love all the foods from all over the continent and consider myself really lucky. In terms of history, geography, and politics, there is no use debating over those things because it really depends on who wrote the references. People have this habit of not wanting to be bad guys nor losers in any story so they made sure their stories were told exactly the way they wanted. All we know for sure is that there were hundreds if not thousands of years of greed, battles, killing and plundering, threats, colonization, oppression, and people getting mutilated and killed, and families torn apart, resulting in what the continent looks like today.
